From Down Under –
Back in February I was attending the ASR (Active Sports Retailers) in San Diego looking for some new eyewear and sunglasses lines that do not show up at the normal vision trade shows.
I found several good new lines. I ran into a really nice guy, Andre Sickinger, who is an Australian with has a great new sunglasses line – Filtrate Eyewear.
Finally a real product solution for all of us who are sitting in front of a computer screen all day or who play video games for long hours, and suffer from increased eye strain, dry eyes and headaches or what is now called computer vision syndrome – Gunnar Optiks.
Did I mention that there are times when California is almost too perfect? Well... it is. We started the trip leaving the lovely city of Murrieta which is a little farther inland than where we were most of the day. You could already feel the wind blowing from the east off the deserts.
About a week ago I got a call from a guy in Arizona who wanted to get a pair of prescription glasses. He was going to attend several trade shows over the next month but his current lenses had become badly scratched and he wanted a new pair but only an inexpensive set to tide him over for a month because he is going to have cataract surgery, after that he will not need them.
California Trip Part 1: Ramblings on why to live in California
Every once in a while, you remember why it is that you decided to live in California. When you take a road trip from San Diego to Morro Bay and the weather is in the 70s to 80s the entire time (and for the return trip the next day), with a beautiful wind that made you feel amazing the entire time, you begin that remembering process.
The next wave in optics? We may soon have glasses that can find what you are looking for, for you. At least, that is what a pair of military binoculars are being designed to do.
We recently added Vedalo HD, which is an eyewear company which specifically caters to people who want superior vision, without polarization or color distortion. For example, pilots and race car drivers, who need to be able to see without polarization because of their instruments.
If you have been trying to contact anyone in the optical business over the last couple of weeks, you might have had little success. Why? They have all been preparing for Vision Expo East which starts today and takes place March 18-21, which is a lot like Vision Expo West, except that it is on the East Coast... OK, lets move on.
